Trio cleared of conversion killing

Three men who were alleged to have shot a man five times in the head after he refused to convert to Islam had the charges against them thrown out after the prosecution offered no evidence.

Marcus Archer, Aaron Irving-Simpson and Marlon Stubbs, all 24, allegedly members of a gang known as the Muslim Boys were found not guilty of conspiracy to murder Adrian Marriott at the Old Bailey yesterday.

Christopher Kinch, QC, for the prosecution, told a jury that new evidence received by police meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.

Archer, of southeast London, was jailed for eight years for firearms offences that he had admitted earlier.

When he was arrested by armed police over the murder of Mr Marriott outside a mosque in Croydon in July last year, a loaded handgun was found in his pocket, Mr Kinch told the court.
