Ifaf Msebeh, her mother, said that Hibba, who had been due to marry next summer, clapped her hands in glee when her grandmother denounced the gunmen on both sides for thinking only of their petty interests while Gaza starved.
“My daughter said, ‘Now grandmother is a spokeswoman for the Palestinian people’,” Msebeh, 46, recalled last week, sitting in mourning, wrapped against the winter cold in a black hijab and houndstooth black-and-white wool coat. “She was so happy.”
Hibba, the only girl among seven brothers, had wanted to study politics at university but was dissuaded. “Study something useful,” insisted Mohamed Msebeh, her 51-year-old father. She enrolled to read economics but never lost her interest in politics. Now her father, a dentist, sits inconsolable in a black jacket and trousers, his arms wrapped tightly around his upper chest.
Late-night discussions like that at the kitchen table in the Msebeh home reverberated throughout Gaza last week, as shops and schools shut and people stayed indoors for safety from the street battles that erupted without warning.
The battle between gunmen from Fatah, the secular party of Mahmoud Abbas, the president, and Hamas, the Islamic fundamentalist party of Ismail Haniya, the prime minister, even spilt into the courtyard of Shifa hospital, where gunmen fired from rooftops while doctors and nurses cowered inside, unable to reach the wounded.
Despite the danger, Hibba went to her classes at Azar University as usual last Sunday. When fighting broke out she headed for home. Her favourite brother Sala’am, 17, met her and they hurried along, arm in arm.
Hibba was on her mobile phone to her mother, saying she would be back in a few minutes, when a bullet smashed into her right cheek and out through the back of her head.
“I began screaming for an ambulance but none could come because of all the shooting,” Sala’am recalled last week, stroking a cut on his nose sustained when he fainted in hospital at the news that Hibba was dead.
Her fiancé, Louai Limgani, 28, heard about her death on the television news in Cairo, where he is studying to be a doctor. “He is so angry,” Hibba’s mother said.
Later the family sat in their courtyard, passing around a large card that Hibba kept by her bed. It was made by her fiancé and she would gaze at photographs of the couple inside, with the word “Love” pierced by a Cupid’s arrow. “She was my only daughter,” her father said. “The loss of Hibba is equal to the loss of all my seven boys.”
The family’s one remaining hope is that her death may not be in vain. Her senseless shooting has galvanised a population already bitter at the murderous infighting.
Public outrage began to mount when Hamas militants shot dead the three young sons of a Fatah security official as they were driven to school on December 11. They were aged between four and nine.

It is that time in the history of man when religious ideology is cause enough to kill one upon the other. For each finger pointing in one direction there is equal numbers pointing back. One cannot find resolution when the eyes are clouded in search of blame. Now comes the days of infanticide whereby so-called justice is met out by the murdering of the most innocent. God is watching us; how much more will He allow before ending such a ruthless and heartless people?

The violence is a reaction to the oppression and degradation, theft and murder suffered by the Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli's, who have been violating numerous UN resolutions for over half a century. America would never stand for being invaded and overrun the same way, why do you expect the Palestinians to suffer in silence? I suspect that both the American and Israeli gov'ts have a hand in stoking the animosity between the two parties. Hamas, Fatah and all other parties need to form a unity government and pour their energies into fighting against the Israeli occupation and apartheid against the Christian and Muslim Palestians.
God loves those who are just and there is no Peace without justice. Hard to believe the crimes the Zionists have comitted against the Palestinians, yet we are expected to remain constant in our sympathy for the crimes perpetrated against them by the Germans.
Wake up , what is in the best interest of Israel is not in the best interest of America.

There will never be peace with IRAN hiding behind HAMAS. They use the Palastinian cause, children, woman and men to further there own misguided cause. True Palastinians will see through this, rise up and revolt against HAMAS. Remove this hatred from your government and begin the peace process. The only way for peace between all Arabs and Israelis is by working together and to defeat the Iranian extremistists. Don't let the Iranians use your people or cause to promote extremism, violence and hatred. Forget the past and start working together for the FUTURE and move forward for PEACE. Remember GOD is watching!

Palestinian should not complain., that’s what they want because they choose the hamas over the fatah which who are moderate and want to have peace with Israel. By choosing hamas they are now suffering.

In regards to the death of this young girl, the family is correct in saying that Hamas and fatar are only thinking of themselves,,,they drive and travel in luxury, they eat fine foods each and every day and really couldn't care less about your mother, my daugther, or his son,,,,,,,
With every "marcho" man carrying a "gun" and hiding behind the "skirts" of the woman and boys
as they vie for status in showing how cruel they can be,,,So the truce is worth "zero". By design Hamas and Fatar want the rocket attacks to continue, as they know that soon "Israel" will strike back,,,they need more blood, more death, because that is all they known for the past 30 years, and 30 years from now, your "gaza" will remain a "no mans land" where no one will want to visit, no one will want to try to set up shop or business, or resorts to enjoy the fine beachers.
the old men will continue to insight the young to blow themselves up killing their future and the future of any Palistine,,,,,,

All of these killings made by both sides of Fatah and Hamas are all useless - they are not the enemies! By fighting each other they also killed innocent civilians who have nothing to do with their hatred to each other. It's now time for Palestinians to come together - united - and fight with these terrorists! Only then peace will come to Palestine!

The young Arab girls death is very sad, but its what the Arab world believe in. Love of death to themselves and torture and death to others. Nothing will ever change their beliefs unless a miracle happens. In the meanwhile Israel, an island of good surounded by a sea of evil must continue to punish those that seek to destroy them. Israel must contine to use its power to win and cannot lose. We must all pray for the miracle that will bring about peace and happiness for our beautiful world.

It all goes back to what Golda Meir said many years ago and that is "until the palestinian mothers love their children more than they hate the jews; only then will there be peace". Maybe this young girl will be the start of that.
Israel has a right to be there and is going no where!

How quick are people to pick sides. The Muslims blame the Zionosit and the Zionist blame the Muslims. Yet let us not forget that both sides have blood on thier hands and no-one is innocent. If Hamas and Fatah want to fight it out let them, its an internal problem that does not involve any other party. They want to be democratic and have free elections so be it. If this is there way of resolving there political differnces who are we to say that this is the wrong way. Neither the U.S., EU or Arab league have the right to interfere with there political process. If by chance the palestinians do manage to form a unity government lets see how much effort they put into stopping the rockets into Israel.

Israel was also founded by terrorists and with the assistance of Great Britain who ruled the territory at that time.I suggest that people read the book, "One Palestine Complete," by Tom Segev,a columnist for Ha'aretz to get the real story about the founding of Israel. If you want to blame anyone for the current mess in that area, blame the U.K.

Att. Father Robert Walsh:
In case you haven't noticed, Palestine IS being returned to the Arabs who are, at one and the same time, both attacking Israel and each other. This young woman was killed by crossfire between two Arab gangs.

To Father Robert Walsh;
What does returning Palestine (presumably from Israel) to the Arabs have to do with this story? All over the Middle East, Arab fights Arab, or Muslim fights Muslim, and it is the Jews fault! Chad and Libya, Iran and Iraq, Iraq and Kuwait, ad nauseum. This is a tragic event, and as the young lady's mother says, maybe something good will come of it, although I won't hold my breath.

Those lamenting the tragic loss of life of children and innocent bystanders as a result of the carnage in Gaza are, sadly, the very people who rejoice with dancing when the same innocents are killed on the streets of Israel. Having practiced and honed their murderous skills on Jews for so long, and now unable to reach them because of the security fence, the aggression of the 'Palestinian street' is turning inward on itself. There is no reason for optimism for the Palestinian people until they renouce terror being practiced against anyone... Jews included.

"The Palestinians should stick to killing Israeli civilians, killing other Palestinians is just wrong" Totally unlike the hairbrain from Canada that wrote the above statement, I greatly admire the courage of all Jews in general and Israelis in particular.
They are trying to live in peace. Fighting between Palistinians is grounded in power and control grabs, nothing less.
Hopefully, Abbas a moderate among the Palistinians can rid the his homeland of the terrorists, Hamas and other terror factions.

This article is just another example of how nothing changes. A man, woman or child killed in a never ending cycle of violence. Honestly, all that has changed is the name of the victim. This article has been played out in at least 4 other countries today and will again tomorrow....
At what point will the people of the middle east (Isreal, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iran, etc) say, ok, enough. We have done it this way forever, we have to try something new.
At the very least, rise up and fight for peace. Kill those who have robbed you of everything. Force a change for the better.
Ahhh. But, there is the problem.... even in this answer, the cycle of violance continues. So the truth of the matter is..... their is no hope, the wars will continue until no man, woman or child can ask when will it end or why did it even begin.
All this misery in the name of..... ? and for what?
May the family of Hibba Msebeh find comfort somewhere and not have to bury any more of their children.

This is a profound and devastating tragedy. Each life lost is one too many. As Israel struggles to live in peace - the drums of war beat on. We should see these terrorist thugs for what they are - despite the protestations of Sunni extremists, Shiite Mullahs and Western Intellectuals. Thugs are thugs. May this girl's blood not be spilled in vain. May her family and fiance find peace in their hearts -- but a steely resolve to face down the monsters who claim Palestinian nationalism.
Peace to the Children of Israel and Palestine.

Father Walsh's comment, "Return Palestine to the Arabs" is very ironic. It ignores the fact that Gaza is completely in Palestinian control and things have only gotten worse. Gaza gained de facto independence in 2005 after Israel pulled out all its settlers and army. Rather than bringing peace and prosperity, this brought more violence and poverty, and now Palestinians are direclty killing their own children.
It also ignores the fact that "Palestine" (a name created by foreigners, the ancient Greeks and Romans, never the name Jews and other original inhabitants gave it) was the ancient Jewish homeland, where some Jews always remained and most others considered their national home even while living elsewhere. If you speak of "returning" the land to anyone, you cannot act as if there were no such overwhelming Jewish connection.
Palestinians will ruin themselves as long as their only priority is destroying Israel - something which they have no need to do. Their enemy is within.

Excuse me, Father Robert Walsh of Kenosha, Wisconsin:
This girl that was killed was shot by a fellow Palestinian. Not by an Israeli soldier. The state of Israel is a legitimate state. The ethnic genocide that you suggest, eliminating the Jewish population from existence in the country that they have given every effort to share peacefully with their arab neighbors is outrageous.
The state of Israel has never in its history targeted individuals that don't pose a threat to it's people. Every Palestinian group, on the other hand has specifically targeted civilian populations, both Israeli and Palestinian, over the entire history of the existence of Israel.

This young lady's death is sad as is the death of any inocent human. No one can fully comprehend or even get close to undersanding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Therefore, no one is finding a solution. I can only say this, if we claim to be supporters of democracy and fiting for it all over the world then we should support the results of the Palestinian elections, we should embrace it, and we should protect it, not fight it, not sanctioning its government and not starving the Palestinian people for the democratic choice they made. After all ,we (the whole world) asked them to make the choice. Other than that will push people more and more to the "right." Supporting one faction against the other with money and weapons is only designed to destroy the Palestinian society for the advantage of Israel such as the killing of the 3 children, this young lady, and many many others who never been mentioned. Israel can have peace whenever it wants because it is the measure power there.

Would there have been rejoicing in most of Gaza if it had been an Israeli young lady from Sderot or Ashkelon? The peace loving religion of Islam is consistently showing its true colors. A peace-loving Muslim is an oxymoron. The article stated that Fatah (from #1 terrorist Arafat) wants peace talks ... but have they ever been peaceful? Fatah only seems moderate, becasue Hamas is so radical.

What another tragedy! Awful for the family. Israel, as said, is not going anywhere unless Iram starts a nuclear war. Then the USA and others will automatically destroy Islamic powers centers, period. No question about that. So, what is a solution? If the USA and Western Europe will increase positive pressure with benefits to the moderate Islamic states, Iran and Syria can be marginalized a lot. Then realistic progress towards a two state solution will occur.
Hope for progress in 2007. Peace....

Blood sport is what this is all about. The arabs enjoy killing each other, you know, it is a macho thing. If the arabs were real smart they would turn these events into TV pay-per-view showings so that could make a few bucks on the side. Just think of the ratings, the Hamas Rockets vs. Fatah Bombers!

All Palestians with any sense should encourage a civil war between the Fatah party and Hamas. Both parties are founded by know terrorists. Let them kill each other off and then the good people of Palestine can form a government that will do some good. Negotiate peace with Isreal promote commerce and join the WTO and get on with living long full lives.
I myself and Im sure many people will agree that your way of life is horrible. The constant murdering of your family and friends for reasons that are so stupid and confusing must take a toll unbeknown to many peoples of the world.
Isreal has been around for 60 odd years now and no matter what you do they are not going anywhere. When is it going to dawn on your leaders that the way to peace is through negotiation and diplomacy, something our leaders need to try in Iraq. Flexing your military might is going to further divide your country as we here in the USA are experiencing now. Get to the Tables and talk or perish.
