That's amazing: In tune for a little more conversation

I had started to worry that I would never be a rock star. Despite a host of band names suggested at www.tinyurl.com/cfelu (I liked Sack of Moons and Young Mouse Theory), it seemed my inability to play or persuade anyone to join me would prove fatal. Thankfully, www.createbands.com saved the day. I chose band members from a list, placed them on screen and decided which of a series of loops they should play, depending on their instrument. These were cleverly intercut to produce my idea of beautiful music.

“Love art, will travel” should be the slogan for the Tate’s Picture of Britain website (www.tinyurl.com/7dyf8). Zoom around the interactive map for a virtual UK art tour, from John Knox’s painting of Glencoe to Constable’s Chain Pier, Brighton. You can venture further afield at the World Wide Panorama project (geoimages.berkeley.edu/wwp.html). Here, photographers display panoramas from around the world, with subjects as diverse as a seal haven in Portaferry, Northern Ireland, and a whiskey distillery in Japan.

Eavesdropped conversations from public places in New York fill www.overheardinnewyork.com. The lady who replied to a Scientologist offering a stress test by saying “I don’t need a freako to tell me I’m stressed, I already know” would be my new hero if I hadn’t recently learnt about the table-football ace Zeek Mullins. As www.foosball.com explains, he was a huge-handed drifter who left a trail of smashed tables in his wake. American GIs took the game home from Germany, and this site is a magnificent home-made homage.
