Bombers' remains are released

The funerals of three of the July 7 London bombers can now take place after a coroner said yesterday that the bodies were available for the families.

So far only one of the four bombers, Shahzad Tanweer, has been buried, in a ceremony that took place in Pakistan.

Police and coroners confirmed that they had completed their investigations into the bombers’ remains. Whitehall sources said it was possible that all four bombers might be buried abroad because of the risk of vandalism.

The remains of the leader of the bombers, Mohammad Siddique Khan, 30, a teaching assistant from Leeds who was married with a child, have been held by the coroner at Westminster. The remains of Hasib Hussain, 18, also from Leeds, and Germaine Lindsay, a Jamaican who was living in Aylesbury, have been with the coroner at Camden.

Yesterday about 100 people gathered in Kotan, Pakistan, to pray for Tanweer. Tanweer, 22, who was responsible for killing six passengers at Aldgate, was buried on Thursday inside a shrine in the village in the Punjab district of Sumandari.
