The project follows the completion of the £25million OCS Stand at the Vauxhall End and complete the transformation of the once decrepit old ground which staged the first Test in England in 1880 and saw England regain the Ashes in 2005.

“There is intense pressure on all grounds that host international cricket to provide high quality facilities for both members and visitors,” Paul Sheldon, Surrey’s chief executive, said. “It is therefore vital that the Brit Oval continues to strive to produce the best facilities of any cricket stadium in the world.

“We are already in discussion with Lambeth Council and our landlord, the Duchy of Cornwall, who have both expressed their support in principle for the project. There are also a number of local community and residents’ groups with whom we will have extensive dialogue to ensure the project is a truly co-operative one.”

Surrey’s partners in the project are Arora International Hotels while HOK Sport, the architects who were responsible for the OCS Stand as well as the Emirates and Wembley Stadiums, have already been appointed as the design team.
