USP Relax is a spa that comes to you, just as long as it’s on
the Isle of Wight, so there’s no need to get in the car, or even leave your
sofa.
QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE My therapist was amiable and
knowledgable, talking me through the reflexology treatment before she
started. She began without washing my feet – so either she could tell that
I’d just done it, or it’s not part of the treatment, which is a shame, as I
find the feet washing ceremony in a floral-scented water - a common part of
most Asian treatments - soothing and a good start to any treatment. She used
Isle of Wight lavender lotion, which was a nice touch, and explained that
finding “crystals” at different points of my foot may indicate problems in
particular parts of my body, although stressed that she didn’t regard
reflexology as diagnostic. The treatment was relaxing and I felt chilled out
afterwards, although I think I would have gotten more out of a massage.
AMBIENCE Whatever you choose – you dictate the lighting, view
and background music – you could even watch the television, although I
wouldn’t recommend it...
IN CROWD It’s hard to tell – the therapist says most of her
clients are women, who come on holiday with friends and have treatments
together, or mothers who want a short break from a holiday with the kids.
FOOD You provide your own refreshments before, during or
after the treatment. I was staying at the Seaview Hotel, one of the island’s
top hotels, which advertise the Relax services.
WALLET WATCH The one hour reflexology treatment costs £55 and
the one hour massage also costs £55. There’s also an Indian head massage
(£45 for 40 minutes), Hopi ear candling and massage (£60 for one hour) and
reiki (£45 for one hour) among other treatments.
