In February, the Portman Estate announced that it had teamed up with a leading insurance group to offer specialist services to estate residents. Meanwhile, it is continuing to refurbish property as the area steadily moves upmarket. Portman, who lives in Australia, is keenly involved in the makeover. We can see only about £5m of net assets in Portman Settled Estates and the Brickleton Group, but our source in the estate world says we are safe to value Portman's 110 London acres - owned by family trusts - at £1,050m. We add £20m for other assets, including 3,000 acres in Herefordshire, an Antiguan holiday home and a Sydney mansion.
