PAUL RAYMOND

34= £650m Property and publishing

Profits at the Paul Raymond Organisation rose in 2001 from £21.6m to £27.6m - largely because Raymond, 77, took a pay cut from £7.1m to £1.2m. The "king" of Soho owns 60 prime acres in London's West End, and 20 more in Notting Hill, Chelsea and Kensington. Although best known for his Soho bars and top-shelf publishing, Raymond's überwealth comes from property. The net assets of his company grew by £18m to £171m in 2001. We value it at £300m, with the same tag on his publishing interests. Other assets are worth £50m.
