| In January the 69-year-old Barclay twins bid £260m for the controlling stake held by Lord Black, owner of The Daily Telegraph, in Hollinger. But an American court has put this on hold. Titles in their Press Holdings stable include The Scotsman and their other interests range from shipping to shopping. They made £100m from Philip Green's (qv) Sears deal in 1999 and have hotels, casinos and property. Recently they bought two home shopping firms for £1.3 billion. Overall profits added up to £262.5m in 2002-03. The brothers are well-known philanthropists, giving away £1.75m last year.
