| South African-born Imerman, 48, wants to be the man from Del Monte again. He owned a stake in a company that bought the food business in 1992 for £360m. Six years later an Italian firm, Cirio, took over and in 1999 he sold his holding for £380m. Cirio went into bankruptcy last year and Imerman wants to buy back Del Monte. Imerman, who lives in London, is also chairman of Whyte & Mackay after buying a 60% holding in the Scottish whisky group. His stake is now worth £55m.
