| When a horse owned by Smith won the Sandy Lane Barbados Cup last year, he gave its just-married Californian trainer, Bobby Frankel, and his new wife a free honeymoon at a luxury resort on the island as a reward. Bookmaking first made Smith rich, but his real fortune derives from the profits of currency trading with the likes of Joe Lewis (qv) and Michael Tabor (qv). He has a £30m home in Barbados as well as other property there and in Florida. We stick with last year's valuation, although our Barbados sources reckon he may be worth twice that figure.
