A knighthood in January capped a good year for Clark, Britain's biggest car dealer. Profits rose sharply to £44m on sales of nearly £1.5 billion in 2003. Arnold Clark Automobiles is one of Scotland's largest private employers, with more than 6,500 staff. Clark set up in Glasgow in 1955 and is still driving his £300m business at 76.
