Papua New Guinea is a goldmine for Mabey and Johnson, the bridge-building subsidiary of Mabey Holdings. It has already built 50 bridges there and in January won a contract to build six more. The family steel, property and plant hire firm in Reading, chaired by Mabey, 42, showed profits of £48.3m on £175.1m sales in 2001-02 and is worth £280m. We add in dividends and Mabey Securities, which has net assets of £19.8m.
