Stelios Haji-Ioannou

143= £300m Airline

The Greek-born son of a shipping magnate, Haji-Ioannou, 37, is best known for the low-cost easyJet, which floated in 2000. But his other "easy" brands are less successful. Last year the Financial Times reckoned that the cumulative losses of his ventures outside easyJet had reached £127m. He raises cash through regular share sales from the airline, in which his stake is now worth £228m. We add £40m for his holding in the tanker company Stelmar and £30m for the other "easies" - until we see evidence of profitability.
