David Khalili

143= £300m Property and art

Iranian-born Khalili, 58, seems to have recovered from spending £61m on doing up a Kensington house then selling it for only £50m, reputedly to Bernie Ecclestone (qv) in 2001. Favermead, his main property company, lost more than £12m in 2001-02, but the following year its losses were reduced to £751,000, while its four subsidiaries showed net assets of about £12m. He is Britain's premier collector of Islamic art, but we continue to be cautious about how much his collection is worth. He values it at £1 billion. We take a conservative view and say it could be worth £250m after tax if he wanted to sell. There is other wealth.
