| The Madonna of the Pinks was saved for the nation by the National Gallery in February. Raphael's tiny masterpiece, which had hung in Northumberland's Alnwick Castle until 1991, was insured for only £6,000. However, the cost of saving the painting was about £35m or £338,295 per square inch. The £22m the 47-year-old duke received after tax went towards maintaining Alnwick. Our art expert believes the duke's remaining collection is worth £300m, a figure we cut by half to reflect our tax treatment of art assets. We value his 120,000 acres in Northumberland, 200 acres at Syon Park in west London, the 3,000-acre Albury estate in Surrey, the Dryburgh estate in Scotland and 11 companies at £150m, keeping him at last year's total.
