| Smith's clothes have been worn by Tony Blair and the England football team and he has been showered with awards at London Fashion Week. Paul Smith (Holdings) made a healthy £9.7m profit on £64m sales in 2001-02, but its overseas operations take the overall sales to about £229m. There are 200 Paul Smith shops in Japan where he has a huge reputation. Smith, 57, has had many offers for the business and it is easily worth £200m. That values the stake held by him and his wife, Pauline, 63 - they married in 2000 on the same day as he was knighted - at £170m. His home and other assets add £10m.
