At 32 he bought the near-bankrupt Mediamax outdoor advertising group based in Amsterdam and sold it 11 years later for £122m. Since then Paarlberg, who lives in London, has invested in property and become a leading venture capitalist in the Netherlands. Our friends at Quote 500, the Dutch rich list, value him at £175m.
