| Guernsey-based Buckingham, 52, a former officer in the SAS's marine counterpart the Special Boat Service, introduced the mercenary group Executive Outcomes into several African countries with security problems. Subsequently he acquired a slice of Angola's offshore oil rights and diamond mining rights in Sierra Leone. He is a substantial shareholder in two companies, Heritage Oil and Gas and Diamond Works, and has ploughed millions into British yacht racing, his passion.
