| Dutch brewer Heineken's biggest shareholder, London-based Charlene de Carvalho, 50, is the daughter of Alfred "Freddy" Heineken, the former boss of the firm, who died in 2002, leaving his fortune to her. With her banker husband, de Carvalho controls exactly a quarter of Heineken shares, but because of the complex voting structure she has control of the company. Heineken suffered a 33% fall in profits for 2004, caused by lower sales in continental Europe and the weak dollar. Michel is a City high-flyer with a colourful past. He was a child film star who acted in the 1962 epic Lawrence of Arabia, playing the key role of an Arab boy who befriends Peter O'Toole. He was 17 at the time and it proved to be his last role. He went on to ski for Britain at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble. The couple's Heineken stake is now worth £2,170m while past dividends and other assets add £100m to their wealth. |
