| Tipped last year as Leeds United's saviour, Auchi, 67, backed out. But he seems set to put £6m into the new Rose of Kingston theatre in southwest London, where he lives. Iraqi-born Auchi, now a British citizen, was jailed by Saddam Hussein's regime and left the country in 1980. By then he had founded General Mediterranean Holdings, based in Luxembourg, which has at least £1.2 billion assets. Auchi has built 120 companies but is dogged by controversy: in 2003 he was convicted in France of receiving illegal commissions and given a 15-month suspended sentence. We value him, with other interests, at £1.4 billion. |
