| Cleaning up in the American market has pushed Dyson, 57, to billionaire status. A little over two years since the vacuum cleaner king entered the US market, he claims to have overtaken Hoover with his dual-cyclone model. Cameo appearances of its products on TV sitcoms such as Will and Grace and Friends have helped the Dyson to become a must-have product. During New York fashion week, the designer Tara Subkoff had her models wheel them down the catwalk. Profits at James Dyson Ltd more than doubled to £103m on sales of £426m in 2004. This has vindicated his move to switch production from Wiltshire to Malaysia three years ago. We value the business at £1 billion and other wealth adds £50m. |
