| In the 1980s Bloomfield, 59, worked with the late Tony Clegg and his Mountleigh Group, a property investor and trader that went bust after their departure. A separate venture forced Bloomfield into bankruptcy, but he traded his way out of trouble making a reported £158m through deals in the former Soviet states. Details of his overseas concerns are scant, but in 1996 Cable & Wireless paid £29m for a Russian phone company to a group that included Bloomfield. In 2003 he lined up the German bank WestLB to finance the £750m redevelopment of Wembley stadium. |
