The actress, who reportedly earns £1m a film, came to prominence in Bend It Like Beckham, the 2002 low-budget hit movie. But it was starring opposite Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean that propelled her onto the Hollywood A-list. The sequel to Pirates and the film version of Ian McEwan’s Atonement will swell her bank balance further. Her earnings were put at £6.5m in 2004 in a list of Britain’s highest paid women.
