Draper’s son Green, 70, the Manchester-born tycoon, was one of the largest investors in the consortium that bought the former Savoy hotel group in 2004 for £750m. He has a 20% equity stake in the company that owns Claridge’s, the Connaught and Berkeley hotels. Green married Mary-Jean Mitchell, daughter of the wealthy businessman Sir Harold Mitchell, and took over the running of her family’s international mining business after she died. In 1996 part of its Canadian mining operation was sold for £300m. Properties in Bermuda and London plus other assets take Green’s fortune to £605m.
