| The Meadowhall shopping centre near Sheffield made Sykes’s fortune after 1,500 acres were turned into an out-of-town centre by him and his business partner Eddie Healey (qv). They sold Meadowhall in 1999 for £1.2 billion. Sykes, 62, also sold his stake in the Planet Online internet business.
