| Guthrie, 69, was the biggest winner from the sale last year of Merchant Retail to Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-Shing for £222m cash. He had picked up a 10% stake at 9p a share and, on a 197p takeover price, made £22.3m. He chairs and owns Broadland Properties, a private Scarborough property group.
