| McDonald, 72, will have noted the £293m sale of his former company, Polypipe, to a New York-based financial group last year. Six years earlier, he sold Polypipe for £337m and netted £56m. It was a shrewd deal and McDonald keeps his hand in with 16 directorships. After training as a plumber in South Yorkshire, McDonald founded Polypipe, a maker of domestic plastic piping, in 1980. Allowing for his remaining assets and share sales, he is easily worth £80m. |
