| O’Brien, 48, reinvested in Digicel some of the £175m he got selling his stake in Esat Telecom, an Irish phone company, to BT. Digicel is the Caribbean’s largest mobile phone company and expects to be in 22 countries by 2007. O’Brien chairs and owns more than 85% of it. The Dubliner also spent £37m on golf venues across Europe and this year acquired a 3% stake in Independent News & Media that is already showing a profit. Investments have conservatively added £346m to his BT windfall. He bought the £40m Quinta do Lago golf resort on the Algarve and lives there. His original Communicorp radio business is easily worth £40m and he has other assets. | ||||||||||||||||
