O’Reilly, 70, is doing better than ever. He earns £15m a year in dividends and from salaries, and the value of his Co Kildare stud could increase to £66m if part of the land is used for housing. The assets of his second wife Chryss Goulandris, 56, a Greek shipping heiress and, as Lady O’Reilly, active in horse racing, have risen to £510m. O’Reilly has a 28% family stake in newspaper publisher Independent News & Media (INM), where he is chief executive and the chief operating officer is his son Gavin, pictured below with Sir Tony and his wife Chryss. The value of his stake in INM is up from £355m to £461m, helped by buoyant international advertising. His 45% stake in the Providence Resources exploration company, run by his son Tony Jr, is at £46m, and his Waterford Wedgwood stock is now £61m, thanks to a share price recovery. The former Ireland rugby union international’s shares in Heinz, the American food giant he headed, are up 30% to £232m. Other assets include hotels, Dublin industrial group Fitzwilton, art and several homes — including in the Bahamas, the tax haven where he is resident. The sale of his share of the former state phone monopoly Eircom, the Portmarnock Hotel and Country Club, Dublin, and a stake in Canadian group Lundin Mining add £281m.
