The JCB Dieselmax, a one-off racer, broke the land speed record for diesel vehicles on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah last August, reaching an extraordinary 350mph. It is this sort of technology that has helped Staffordshire-based JCB to record orders, doubling its profits to £110m on sales up 23% at £1.4 billion in 2005. The company is now valued at about £1.2 billion. The family, led by Bamford, 61, has had dividends of £69m over the years and we add £100m for this and other wealth after tax.
