PETER de SAVARY

81= £34m Property

He doesn't possess quite the wealth of some of his guests at Skibo Castle, but de Savary, who has made and lost fortunes during a turbulent business career, has hit upon a winner with his exclusive Scottish retreat. Madonna and Guy Ritchie (qv) were married there in 2000 and the racing driver Dario Franchitti and actress Ashley Judd tied the knot there last year. De Savary, 57, re-enters the Rich List (in Scotland, at least) on the back of Skibo, which he bought in a run-down state in 1990. A colourful character, he left Charterhouse at 16 with one O-level after being found in bed with his housemaster's au pair. He was a millionaire by 30, with an import-export venture in Nigeria, before moving into hotels and launching the St James Club chain, which he sold in the 1980s for $100m. Although he lost £50m in the recession that hit just days after buying Skibo, he is firmly back in the black. We see net assets of £18m in Skibo Ltd. With other hotels here and abroad, he has more than enough to pay his £325 fine for doing 86mph on the A9 in the run-up to Madonna's wedding.
