A friend of mine, back in Africa, introduced me to Harry Potter. She lent me a video tape of the 1st one and I just could not let it go. SHe then told me that there were a whole lot of books my J.K and I bought the 1st four. I got so enveloped on the story that i craved for more and started discussing with my friends and as more books came out, my thirst for Harry was naturally quenched. I am now 16yrs old and the proud owner of the whole series. Thank you Jo for this 'tantalising' story that i wil never forget and, maybe in the future, i might even urge my own children to read this attracting story. P.S I loved the 7th, only wish there were more to read.

My first Harry Potter book was in English - and I was very proud that I could work myself through it with only a few times to look up some terms in a dictionary. I kept this up and read all parts in English.
Today I'm not only reading online English newspapers [:)], but also Lord of the Rings - which was a hard work.
I'm a very glad that I joined the Potter fan club and am thrilled for the story's end.

I join the list of people congratluating JKR on her success. I was a bookseller/bookshop manager for nearly 20 years, and while a new Harry Potter is not the bonanza for bookshops which some may expect (discounting is so competitive that there is little if any profit to be made) anyone who doesn't get thrill from seeing so many children being excited to hold, have and read a book has no business in the book-trade.
Gatz, Chelmsford,
I am 53 years old, and I heard about Harry Potter in 2000, and I have always been an avid reader, of all kinds of books/stories,etc. I had the idea that children, all over the world, in this day, and age, couldn't be "wrong", if they were reading these books. So, I decided to "check them out" for myself. Well, not only have I been a dedicated fan, since then, but I have "converted" many, many people, to the delights that this brilliant writer has given us. I will be thankful to Jo, for the the rest of my days, for the joy of reading her stories, so eloquently written.

I am thinking of writing a story about a little boy called BARRY MOTTER who is kept in a cuboard under the SINK by his evil step parents, Mr and Mrs PURSLEY, until one day a CUCKOO comes with a letter for him telling him that he has got to go to PIGZIT'S school for hocus pocus and such like. A giant bloke called BAGRID comes to get him on a flying SKATEBOARD or something and takes him off to platform 9 and a HALF where he has tons of adventures with chocolate TOADS and a lad called GREVILLE and his half-baked sister HOMONYMIE.
I need five thousand pounds to pay 'Sad Vanity Publishing Inc.' of Ruislip to get my book in the bookshops and start making a few million like what JK has. Perhaps she could send the money to me and I'll pay her back out of all the cash I make. Could you pass the message on?

Anyone who can have children lining the streets, at midnight, full of excitement and waiting for the local Waterstones to open so they can be the first to buy A BOOK - and not a Play Station - gets my vote anyday.
Possibly not just Harry Potter who has magical powers.
Well done J.K - we salute you!

I say good luck to J.K. Her books have rekindled children's interest in reading, which is a wonderful achievement. As a children's author myself (my book Sebastian Darke is on the new list of librarian's recommendations) I know how children react whenever her name is mentioned and that she has played a major role in bringing children's fiction into the new 'golden age.'

I wonder if I set up a JK Rowling fan club she might just pass some wealth my way - Harry Potter eh? Who would have thought wizards and witches made for children's bedtime stories - I'd stick with my Beatrix Potter tales and ones by Enid Blyton any day - one thing's for sure, I know I would have had some heeby-jeeby dreams thinking of Harry Potter and his pursuers.
