I was lucky enough to win a competition to go up to London for the opening of a new comic magazine called the DFC. It was a chilly May afternoon down by the South Bank at the BFI.

When I first arrived at London we went straight into the animation workshop. Phillip Pullman was there to help out with the workshop and also to tell us about the comic strip he is writing for the DFC. During the workshop I got to make a plasticine figure to go in an animation and also got to experiment filming with the help of some of the animators from the BFI. I also did some different drawings and got to meet a few of the illustrators who helped me with my drawings.

After a mad two hours we stopped for tea and were allowed to help ourselves to delicious food and drink. The lovely people at DFC then gave us our goodie bags including a taster copy of the brand new comic which I sat down and read straight away. It was an amazing comic and I can't wait to read the next copy.

Later that evening the launch party began with all the great party guests including the illustrators and writers. Near the end of the night they released brightly coloured balloons into the air offering some lucky children a chance to win a subsciption for a month to the spectacular comic.

I had a fantastic day at the launch collecting autographs and capturing wonderful pictures. As I watched the balloons take off over the river Thames I knew it was the end of a great day but the beginning of a great comic. It was a day I will never forget.
