Tell us about your summer reading

It's our Summer Books issue next week, and we want to know about your memorable holiday reads.

In no more than 100 words, tell us the year, a bit about the holiday, what you were reading, and what made it significant (in either a good or bad way). We will print the best entries next week, and one star entry will win five books, chosen by the winner from all those recommended by our writers in next week's issue.

E-mail books@thetimes.co.uk with “summer reading” in the subject line, and include your name, address and telephone number. It's not essential, but if you have a digital photograph of yourself (head-and-shoulders, 1MB or larger if possible), then please attach it.

I had a long holiday in London learning English in mid 90s. I was impatient to read a book in English for the first time in my life and spent one morning staring at people in a bookshop in Piccadily, found that Birdsong was selling the most, bought one, read it for the next 6 month -beautifully slow
