“Now,” said David, sitting down next to her. “There’s just us.”
Sally’s teeth began to chatter.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” he said, sliding his arm around her shoulder.
Sally could feel his body up against hers, warm and comforting.
“I know you’re in some kind of trouble,” he continued, gently moving the hair out of her eyes. “People who come to Woodside always are.”
He sounded so reassuring, so in control. Paula was so lucky, to have found someone like this. She wished she had someone of her own to rely on.
Keep your mouth shut. This is the only way to keep you safe.
What is that was a lie, just like all the other lies she’d been told?
What is the only way to be safe, was to trust someone?
David took her right hand in his.
“Whatever it is,” he said, “ you shouldn’t have to face it alone.”
Sally felt his words cut into her like a knife.

Sounds great, cant wait to read the rest.
James, Gloucester,
I have read al the extracts shown today but am wondering if there will be any futher extracts next week?
Maureen Nicholls Bristol UK
Maureen Nicholls, Bristol,
I rather liked the way this extract intrigued me. Although I am not a fan of black magic or cult books as I simply don't beleive in any of it being an atheist, I did find it provoking me in becoming ever more curious as to what is/was going to happen to Sally and David. But I know a lot of readers like to feel there is a spooky/intriguing/scary story that might fit in with their concepts of anything supernatural. So well done Elizabeth for concentrating my mind and good luck to you!
Joe Thomson-Swift, London, England. UK
It seems criminal that we're reading all these extracts of books and getting interested in the plots when some of these stories won't be published.
In case you hadn't guessed, Elizabeth, I found your submission intriguing and enjoyed reading it.
I hope you do well.
Joe Tucker, Leeds, UK
Intriguing plot glimpse. Perhaps short on scene description and heavy on dialog in comparison to Rowling. (If that is whom it is being held up to...)
Wes, Montreal, Canada
well done - it's very intriguing. and good luck!
having entered myself i am dreading looking here every week to see if i am lucky enough to have an extract printed.
good luck to all who entered.
Barbara, Manchester, UK
