Can a smart talking animated pooch kick-start a new genre in Bollywood? 33 years after The Lady and the Tramp, Disney’s teams up with Bollywood for its first animated mismatched tale, Roadside Romeo, which releases later this year. It features the voice of Saif Ali Khan as the new pup on the block. Will it work?
Avtar Panesar, UK Head of co-producer Yash Raj Films tells me: “It is an untapped market. Animation has the potential to cross over to a wider audience.” Disney has competition: Warner Bros announced earlier this week that they were also producing a Bollywood animated feature.
