Spice Girl Melanie Brown secretly married boyfriend Stephen Belafonte in Las Vegas two months ago, her spokeswoman confirmed today.
Although a new couple, Brown’s spokeswoman said that the Spice Girl, known as Mel B and Scary Spice, and film producer Belafonte had "been good friends for many years".
The pair married at the Special Memory Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas as they wanted to "make a private commitment to each other", she said.
Brown, 32, recently took legal action against Hollywood actor Eddie Murphy, the father of her baby girl. The pair split suddenly while she was pregnant. Following the birth, Brown waged a legal battle to establish Murphy as the father of Angel Iris, now four months old.
Brown and Belafonte are planning a bigger wedding later in the year.
Her spokeswoman released a statement saying: "Melanie Brown confirmed today that she and long-term friend Stephen Belafonte were married at the Special Memory Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas on Wednesday June 6 2007.
"The couple, who are both 32, had wanted to keep the ceremony out of the public eye as they planned a more formal wedding for friends and family later in the year.
"Melanie and Stephen felt that they 'were at a good point in their lives and wanted to make a private commitment to each other'. They have been good friends for many years."

I agree Charmaine. Celebrities do seem to get married a lot quicker than us 'normal' people. Is it nice though to see a celeb getting married in private and not turning it into a circus.
The marriage won't last though.
Charlotte, Bucks,
let's see a (4) month afair with Eddie - she has his child - (4) months later she marries someone else.
Mr. Murphy hasn't made up his mind about being more that a paying father, Ya think - who has a baby after only a few months of dating. How responsible is that. Money changes every thing!
karen harrison, pasadena, la / ca
the other solution of course is to have a baby. I'm fed up with Ms B complaining that Eddie Murphy isn't interested in the baby - that sounds like a variant on 'He'll love it when it's here and everything will be lovely.'
carole, London, UK
She has put everything else regarding herself, Eddie & this baby in the PUBLIC forum, trying to humiliate him into being a DAD. Who has a press conference to announce that they are filing for child support??!! Most normal woment just figure the guys not going to step up and go to court to get what's deserved for their child. But she goes off and gets married and wants a "private commitment" ??? Nothing is "private" to this chick!!
Stacy, New York,
Four months after having a man's child is a bit too soon to make a commitment to someone else. She obviously wasn't considering Mr Belafonte as husband material prior to having her affair with Eddy Murphy. Why do these pop stars think that the solution to their many relationships is to get married?
