Watch Heather Mills on Dancing in the Stars
Heather Mills won praise from the judges today as she became the first contestant with an artificial leg to compete on US TV show Dancing With The Stars.
But viewers – including many Beatles fans – slammed the estranged wife of Sir Paul McCartney on the show's online messageboard. One, "Leneda", warned that Mills, 38, would not get “the sympathy vote”.
Leneda added: "This is America, If your (sic) a class-A B***CH we will let you know. Your handicap does not endear us to you and you are the WORST role model for a handicapped person."
Meanwhile, "kmoconnor13" wrote: "She is not a star! She is a money grubbing (sic) idiot who complains that Paul makes her crawl to the bathroom at night, but now she thinks she can dance.”
The comments – many of which centre on the former model’s expected multimillion pound divorce payout – come after Mills scored 18 out of 30 for her foxtrot with dance partner Jonathan Roberts. Six other couples were ahead of them in the rankings, but they left four more trailing in their wake.
Mills, dressed in a flowing sequinned pink and yellow dress with pink elbow-length gloves which she admitted made her feel like an ice-cream sundae, said: "I'm just glad I didn't fall over. I thought I'd be the lowest so I'm pleased."
The judges applauded her decision to enter the competition despite only having one leg, and said her biggest problems had been above the waist. Choreographer Carrie Ann Inaba told her: "You've got to watch your arms. When you're worried about your leg and your weight on your leg, your shoulders get really tense."
Bruno Tonioli told Mills, who was shown taking a tumble during training: "You've got more guts than Rambo. The thing to pick on was actually the top half. Watch your frame, neck to shoulder frame."
Len Goodman, who insisted she would be judged by exactly the same standards as the other dancers, said: "There was far more right about that routine than there was wrong."
The highest score went to former NSync star Joey Fatone, who got 24 points for his jokey cha cha cha. Achy Breaky Heart singer Billy Ray Cyrus fared worst, only managing 13. Tonioli said he looked like a "crazy bear in a swamp".
The 11 couples will perform again next Monday. One will be booted off the following night.

I'm sorry Carole, but I am not decrying her because she is a woman nor thinking he is perfect because he is a pop icon, I am decrying her because she is a total fake. She crys out for media attention but then harrases the police when she gets it and is constantly using her disability to gain attention and sympathy. I know several disabled people that don't keep harping on about it to anyone that will listen, they just get on with things and I have the up most respect for them..
Tricia B, Boston, Lincs, UK
Why is it always women who decry other women? She has gone through hell in her marriage and her divorce. Paul McCartney is just a man and obviously has issues like everyone else, he is not perfect just because he is a pop icon. Good luck to Heather.
Carole Baker, Southampton, UK
Well said Sheila in Ohio, I totally agree with you. The woman is a disgrace. Not only does she use her disability to get attention, she also constantly complains that the media wont leave her alone but yet she constantly volenteers to go on every television programme possible and every newspaper and magazine known to man! You are fooling no one Heather, leave Sir Paul alone.

This stunt has nothing to do with being brave and overcoming a disability. It is another desperate and never-ending attempt to be in the limelight.
Why is everone forgetting that she made terrible accusations against a man who has never in 45 years of public life been accused of such criminal behaviour?
In her divorce petition she goes on and on about how pitiful and disabled she is-- so I guess when it comes to getting money, she's disabled, and when it comes to getting attention, she's not.

watching the previews of this programme on TV, I had to smile when Heather said , her biggest worry on being on this show was" That she hoped her leg would not fall off"
Fay, panama city, Florida
She is a very pretty woman and I wish her success in the future. The beatle maniacs will always try to demean her. I hope she can ignore them

This woman should dance straight out of the Uk and never come back

Heather danced very well and has given people hope of a better life.
There is so much garbage about Heather how is anyone to know the real truth. Is it really our business anyway?
Linda, Chesapeake ,
As a mother of a little girl who was born without a developed left leg, I applaud Heather Mills. To those of you who have nothing better to do than to put her down- get a life. I am sure your perfect existence in this world will never come crashing down, but when it does I hope the world is there to criticize you and your problems like you spend your time doing to others.
To the person who wants a fair playing field, I am sure you will not favor a contestant for their looks or personality- just dancing right? Besides, I have never met a person with a disability who wants sympathy- that is the last thing they want especially from people like you who see sympathy as a benefit of being handicapped.
Kelli, Baytown, Texas
Heather,
I cannot dance like that on two good legs.
I am so proud of you.
Good Luck
Kathy Rau, Saylorsburg, PA
She is getting the sympathy vote from the judges for dancing on a special $18000 leg. Not fair to other contestants. There is a separate para olympics for a reason - level playing field.
Barbara, Albany, NY USA
I hope the americans love her so much
so that they would insist she stay
in US permanently!
