It’s a dog’s life. Or at least it is for Ben, a 39-year-old (in dog years, obviously) mongrel who’s got an understandable complex against his owner for castrating him. Needless to say, the dog narrator explains, the events surrounding this procedure “were not the happiest of times”. In this charming short film, the changing relationship between Ben and his owner is explored with humour and gravitas. It makes you want to go get yourself a puppy. But to leave its testicles very much attached.

Certain things make you wonder if, in fact, against the weight of all logical thought, there might just be a God. This video is one of them. It shows ants, trap-jaw ones to be precise, propelling themselves through the air by the rapid closing of their jaws. It’s all filmed in slow motion, which makes it look as if the ants are on the Moon. Watching them perform countless Matrix-esque flip-flops over each other provokes one question: how?

As Congress passes a Bill to help thousands of homeowners, George W helps the process along: by making fun of the housing crisis. In a leaked video from a fundraising dinner, Bush first gives the guests his considered, intellectual view of the credit crunch. “There’s no question about it,” he says. “Wall Street got drunk – that’s one of the reasons I asked you to turn off the TV cameras – it got drunk and now it’s got a hangover.” Even better, he then says: “And then we got a housing issue . . . not in Houston, because Laura’s over there trying to buy a house”. Many of the guests, all with houses, laughed at the joke.
