RDF Media’s shares tumbled for the second day running after ITV followed the BBC in suspending commissions from the producer embroiled in the Queen editing controversy.
ITV is expected to account for 11 per cent of RDF’s revenues for this year, from commissioned programmes such as The Great Pretender, a daytime quiz show to be presented by Chris Tarrant.
The stock fell 11 per cent to 205p yesterday, having fallen by 8.3 per cent on Thursday, after the BBC announced its own suspension. However, there was good news when Channel 4 said that it would not take similar action.
ITV said that its decision was “about being consistent”, reflecting the fact that Michael Grade, its executive chairman, has recently become outspoken in his calls for a clean-up of broadcasting in the wake of a series of phone-in and fakery scandals.
Both broadcasters will wait until Will Wyatt, a former BBC senior executive, completes an inquiry into how misleading footage of the Queen shot by RDF ended up being released by the public broadcaster. Mr Wyatt is expected to complete his inquiry by the middle of September.
RDF supplied the BBC with a series of clips from its upcoming series, A Year With the Queen, a fly-on-the-wall documentary of life with the Royal Family.
They were incorrectly edited out of sequence to make it appear that the Queen was storming out of a shoot with Annie Leibovitz, the photographer, when in fact she had done nothing of the sort.
