This is pure American greed. At least wait until distant memories have clouded the terrible events for the victims of this cowardly and evil act. They have only recently dared make a film about the attack on Pearl Harbour. Don't the victims of 9/11 deserve the same respect? Barry Heath, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Just last week, the History Channel aired a documentary, approximately 60 minutes in length, which attempted to portray a re-enactment of the hijacking of one of American Airlines flights. It was written based on the fragments of telephone calls from the flight's passengers and crew, and included real recordings from the FAA Air Tower Control operators. I found the programme very thoughtful and not at all offensive or innapropriate. Scott Benowitz, Rye, New York
Unlike factual documentaries, in order to be entertaining a movie will contain fictional elements and be the product of artistic licence when it comes to guiding the emotions and reactions of the audience. Previous attempts at depicting real events for entertainment invariably distort what actually happened or what direction the emotional impact took at the time. This is not so important when portraying the sinking of the Titanic, for example, or even events from the Second World War. The destruction of the World Trade Center by terrorists is different because they are still active today and will be for some time. We need to be clear and factual and not risk distorting what actually happened. Keith Downer, London
Barry Heath says that "They have only recently dared make a film about the attack on Pearl Harbour". Tora! Tora! Tora! was made 25 years ago in 1970. Sam Hutchinson, London
My husband was born and raised in New York City. His extended family reside in and around New York City. More than 100 of his friends perished in the 9/11 attack. I think any portrayal of 9/11 by Oliver Stone would be cheap sensationalism. Kayle Higgins-Baldi, Atlanta
