Madonna truly is the Queen of Pop - recycling disposable, commercial froth of no real substance that is lapped up by the masses, in the same way as McDonalds, Disney and Coke. Just don't call it art. Colin Howard, York
And what is with that fake home counties accent? She sounds more ridiculous speaking than when attempting to sing. Queen of pap, more like. Dan Scott, Epsom, Surrey
Is there even any doubt? Who can match her starpower, her cultural impact, her worldwide appeal. And there are the hits, the record sales, the sold out tours. Not to mention songs and videos that have defined a generation. Who? Britney, Christina, Kylie, Beyonce? Oh please. If she just feeds the chickens at her country estate for the rest of her life, for a lot of people of our time, she will always be the Queen of Pop. Lori Snyder, New York
She is coming to the end of her time. If you have seen her live then you will be dissapointed; she’s not the greatest. Tina Turner – I was never that keen on her but saw her in Sheffield because my Mrs said I had to take her ... or else! WOW, she was absolutely brilliant live. A legend. I was glad I went. Barry Heayns, Ellesmere Port
Madge, lose the fake English accent. Makes you more of a joke than a bad comb-over. Alfred Bommel, Newport Beach, California
I think she is still the queen of pop. She clearly understands how to change the direction of pop music and how to give it an edge. Who would have thought her new single would be so convincingly young? Jan Haywood, Manchester
Hmmm, you know how in the early 90s you'd be excited-ish about a new Madonna album, but then you'd get it home and realise it wasn’t very good but would listen to it on repeat anyway and defend her no matter what? Well those days are totally forgotten with Confessions On a Dancefloor. Everyone loves it, not just the gays. Hurrah! Dave Culligan, London
Madonna can still draw a crowd and sell CD's but her shine is starting to fade. Having been a Madonna fan since the early 80s I can think of only one person who might dethrone her as "Queen of Pop": Gwen Stefani. Jillian Cunningham, Boston, Mass
Madonna is a legend, I respect and admire her for continuing her career in the face of blatent ageism. Is there a realistic contendor for the queen of pop? I saw her Re-Invention tour last year and it was the best show I'd ever seen, and she still gets my rocks off even at 47. Sara Hampson, London
I've been a fan of Madonna since I was 7-8 years old, so thats a long time, as I'm 28 now. She’s pretty much been a role model since day one, and she continues to inspire and entertain me. She rocks because shes a woman (and for a woman to acheived all that she has in this male dominated world is amazing). How she does what she does and why? She is a control freak and a perfectionist, and I believe this has helped her maintain her Queen of Pop crown for so long. She just can't sit still. Emma Crisp, Newmarket
Madonna, Madonna, you will always be Madonna, the beautiful, the sensual, the great. Unbelievably many years have passed and you are always in fashion. If I were a singer I would write a nice song for you. You are my princess. Douglas Ascantio, Caracas, Venezuela
If someone had to be Queen of Pop, then Madonna would definitely be the most qualified. Dan Goss, Bristol
Madonna is well past her sell-by date - more crumbly than raunchy. She reminds me of one of the weird free-range chickens my mother got for Christmas last year - in need of some pies. That's not to say that any of her talentless competitors are any good. Derek Sinclair, Dundee
I've grown up with Madonna and feel unswerving loyalty to her for some reason - wish I had been at the concert last night, which frustratingly was literally down my road. But banging on a CD nearly does the trick. God know how she does it but each time she manages to hit the nail on the head. Queen of Pop? I think so! Zanthe Steen, London
Completely overhyped. If it wasn't for MTV she'd be nowhere. Lynne Guyton, address withheld
Hmmm ...58 top-ten singles, the latest of which sold 75,000 in its first week. She's giving us what we want. You simply cannot get by on hype alone; if that were the case, Hear'Say would still be around, wouldn't they? Stewart Patterson, London
