Why should I be penalized for my choice of car. I am 6' 2" and find driving a small car , even for a few miles, crippling.
Perhaps smaller cars should be exempt from road tax. This is just another way of raising money for the treasury. My car use will not deminish, just my spending power, so my local economy could, in a small way suffer.
I do around 5500 miles per year and motorcycle the rest of the time.
If I sold it and bought a new "Eco friendly" hybrid model,
a.They don't grow on trees. The batteries cause massive pollution to make and dispose of.
b. Electricity is a not a pollution free fuel ( Its not made by little green pixies that live in the socket)
c. Whoever bought my traded in 4X4 would, (and I'm gessing here) DRIVE IT.
d. I would probably drive more to make my new car worth the finantial investment .
And finaly, I would probably loose more time from work with a bad back.
Mr. C.F. Floyd, Surbiton,
As most 4x4 vehicles also have large engines, why not charge by engine size or length of vehicle?
I live in a 'difficult' location, so need a vehicle with good ground clearance, this usually means a 4x4. I pay more for fuel, more for spares, so why not more for parking the monster?
If I want or need a 'gas guzzler', then I should expect to pay the price for using it. Why should the driver of a (relatively) eco friendly car subsidise my heavyweight vehicle?
