In view of the location of Lawrence White possibly he knows a great deal about interfering in the affairs of others. If the Prince of Wales manages to upset not only our Masters in Whitehall but also their Masters in Brussels, more power to his elbow. Eric Moody, Worksop
When a non political voice can be heard above the self interests of parliamentarians, freedom is being well served. Allow the populace to decide and judge. Issues such as human rights are often swamped when elected officials can submerge them in debate. I am fully aware of this being a World War II veteran who chose live in Canada and has had his rightful pension frozen by political deviousness. Leonard Chennery, Abbotsford, Canada
He's not affiliated with a political party, he's most probably not influenced by big business - his opinions are his own. He's taking an interest in society and trying to make a difference, something that most people in the limelight who have potential influence don't have the balls to do. Rather an interested and outspoken figurehead then a placid unquestioning one. Sophia Robertson, London
Charles is absolutely right. As a society, we're becoming chronically risk-averse, misanthropic, hypersensitive, litigious and boring. Good on Charles for saying something about it. This thoughtful, highly-intelligent man is a much-needed antidote to Britain's increasingly sterile politicians who seem to believe in nothing but the efficacy of focus groups and the micro-management of our private lives. I wish more of our politicians were like Charles, I wish they had more to say about subjects of concern for Britons and I wish they believed in more. Toby Donovan, Adelaide, Australia
Keep it up your highness! Someone has to stand up for the British people when the government "Carry On Regardless". Lindsay Redden, Bristol
As "Joe Average" (in all aspects - intelligence included), Prince Charles is perfectly entitled to express his opinion. Unfortunately for us, he is in a position to make himself heard. Carey Gunn, London
It would be OK for Prince Charles to raise matters concerning the good of the nation as a whole, but he doesn't do this. He is partisan, representing some interests at the expense of others. It is high time that stopped. Michael Cowan, Chichester, West Sussex
These documents were about how laws affected the various regiments under his command and the various charities he works with. Maybe other people in public life need to take a leaf out of his book and put as much effort as he has into their work. Stephen Handley, Southend-on-Sea, Essex
I cannot see what is so wrong with the Prince making his views known in private to ministers on issues of importance. More intriguing is the timing of this leaking of correspondence and the way in which the story took some headlines away from a certain beleaguered minister of state. James Elliott, Hove
I believe Prince Charles should be as involved in politics as he is, for more than one reason. First, I think it a good idea that he earn some of the tax pounds that are spent on his lifestyle by doing more for his country than exercising pomp and circumstance. Why shouldn't he voice his opinion? He is one of the most famous faces in the United Kingdom and should speak up for his country. Now I don't believe he will ever be a famous figure-head like, say, Churchill or Disraeli, but he should definitely be thinking for and about his country. You don't have to agree with his politics, but he has a right to his opinion. Secondly, I think he has done so very much for the ecological battle we fight daily. Imagine if Bush took a lesson from Charles. Would you rather he spend all his time helping Camilla shop? Let him have his say. You never know, it just might be helpful. Jillian Cunningham, Boston, Massachusetts
Given that the three main political parties are all moving towards the centre ground it seems likely that voters will only have choice on the personality of the leader. How about letting us vote for Prince Charles and the House of Windsor Party! Prince Charles seems much more in touch with ordinary British people. Focus groups and politically-inspired media do not report the general hatred of political correctness, state control and the litigious society. It may be that the amount of human rights inspired litigation is small. However, the climate in society is that you can sue for just about anything. This, along with state control of every aspect of life, has destroyed community and traduced culture. Personally I think provincial Britain is screaming for the state to get off its back and for community to reassert itself. Most politicians do not get this point and seem off-message. However, Prince Charles has a more balanced view as he meets a wider cross-section of ordinary people than most politicians and has more time to think and consider issues from a detached perspective. He is more in touch. Tristram Llewellyn Jones, Ramsey, Isle of Man
I find it very encouraging to read that Prince Charles has spoken out on a topic of such importance. It's sad that people are unable to accept points of view different from their own. I also found out long ago never to trust a politician, the vast majority of whom give the general impression that they are in it for self-interest and a big fat life pension which the average person can only dream of.
