A report has concluded that there is a strong scientific case for continuing to allow monkeys to be used in experiments. The Weatherall Report said that the practice was justified when this was the only way to cure or alleviate human suffering, but it also accepted that there were some cases where the availability of other approaches weakened the argument in favour of using monkeys in research. Many leading scientists have welcomed the report citing the breast cancer drug Herceptin as a valuable use of primate testing. Is expermenting on monkeys vital for the advancement of science? Or do you think that animal testing of this kind is ethically unacceptable?
