Germany’s best-known woman bishop has announced that she is filing for divorce from her husband of 26 years. Margot Kässmann, who is Bishop of the state of Hanover, and was appointed Germany’s youngest bishop eight years ago at the age of 40, issued a terse announcement on Thursday to confirm that she has filed for divorce from her husband, also a protestant clergyman, Pastor Eckhard Kässmann. Her announcement was followed by a declaration of support from the church “senat” (synod) of Hanover.

Producers of the children’s show Sesame Street are giving a programme-themed education pack to nursery and school-age children in Israel, Gaza and the West Bank. “We don’t expect the world to live in peace because of Sesame Street . . . but we can contribute to a culture of peaceful conflict resolution,” said Gary Knell, the president of Sesame Workshop.
