May 3: Shambo, the six-year-old Friesian 'sacred' bull tests positive for bovine tuberculosis at the Skanda Vale temple in Llanpumsaint, near Carmarthen. The Welsh Assembly Government issue the temple with an “intention to slaughter notice”.
May 4: Monks from the temple, backed by the Hindu Forum of Britain launch a campaign to save the sacred bull, including an online petition.
May 10: More than 4,000 signatures online protesting against the slaughter of Shambo.
May 11: Christianne Glossop, the leading vet in Wales, visits Shambo to look at the way the bull is being kept. Separately officials say the bull is to be slaughtered in 10 days.
May 21: Monks at the Skanda Vale Temple set up a webcam, dubbed Moo-Tube, allowing supporters of Shambo to keep an eye on him.
June 26: The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) inform the monks that a date in early July is to be set for slaughter.
June 29: Lawyers for the monks meet WAG officials to make final representations which are rejected.
July 3: Rural Affairs Minister Jane Davidson announces in the Assembly: “I have decided that putting down the bullock is the only means of completely eliminating the risk.” (Of transmitting TB).
June 3: Lawyers for the monks immediately announce they intend to seek an injunction to halt the slaughter of Shambo.
June 15: International animal expert David Taylor examines Shambo and says slaughter would be “scandalous”. He adds the risk of infection to other animals or people is “zero”.
July 6: Lawyers for the Skanda Vale monks announce a legal challenge to the Welsh Assembly decision will take place in one week.
July 13: High Court Judge Mr Gary Hickinbottom hears a legal challenge by the Skanda Vale monks to the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) slaughter order.
July 16: The High Court Judge quashes the two separate orders to slaughter Shambo. The Welsh Assembly Government immediately announces it will appeal.
July 20: Lords Justice Pill, Lloyd and Thomas sit in Cardiff to hear the WAG appeal against the quash order.
July 23: Appeal court judges rule to uphold the appeal. Hindu monks establish a round-the-clock prayer vigil for the bull.
July 25: Welsh Assembly tell Skanda Vale they will collect Shambo for slaughter on July 26 at 8am. Hindu monks vow to block their path with a sit down protest and say they won't let the bull go without a warrant.
July 26: Over 100 protesters gather at the temple to perform a 'pooja' ceremony celebrating Shambo's life. Vets arrive to remove the bull, they are prevented from entering by locked gates and leave to seek a warrant. More than 20 police accompany the vets and officials on their return to the temple. Protesters are moved aside and Shambo is led into the awaiting trailer. Shambo is taken to the local abattoir three months after testing positive for boving tuberculosis. The bull is put down by lethal injection.
