The Sunday Times Christmas appeal has raised more than £1.2m for our two chosen charities, Help for Heroes and the Princess Royal Trust for Carers.

Readers have very generously given some £674,000 to Help for Heroes, which will go towards building a new gym and swimming pool complex at Headley Court, a rehabilitation centre for wounded soldiers in Surrey.

The £350,000 raised for the Princess Royal Trust, plus £223,000 given by Sainsbury’s in cash, goods and services in kind in association with our appeal, will help to support centres up and down the country offering help to young carers, many of whom are the sole or principal carer for a sick or disabled adult.
