Sir, The killing of Benazir Bhutto was a heinous act but neither she, nor the Pakistan People’s Party,

had a God-given right to rule Pakistan. In naming her husband as her successor she has dealt a

serious blow to democracy in the country. His decision to pass the mantle to their son is equally undemocratic and an embarassment for the PPP.

A party that seeks to bring democracy back to Pakistan cannot seriously allow a 19-year-old university student to lead it into a general election simply because his grandfather was once the leader of a country he barely knows.

Let us hope that Bilawal Zardari is quickly shown up as a novice so that true democracy can return to the PPP with the election of a more qualified leader.

Sir, Are Oxford students now to go in fear of their lives as another set of terrorists attempts to eliminate the next Bhutto in line for leadership?

Anointing a teenager of no experience is a grubby attempt to exploit the ignorance of the howling masses and hold on to power. No doubt the British State is to pick up the cost of protecting the young pretender and the students among whom he moves.
